PANS and PANDAS LAB TESTING
PANS and PANDAS are clinical diagnoses based off the child’s current symptoms and medical history. Lab testing can be used as guidelines to further solidify or differentiate a diagnose, but normal lab testing does not rule out a PANS or PANDAS diagnosis. Lab testing can be helpful in determining the underlying cause of the disorder, identifying overall inflammation or other immune imbalances, and ruling out other disorders.
Some useful lab testing to consider based off clinical history:
-
Strep throat culture and/or perianal strep culture
-
Strep Antibodies: Anti-DNase B, Antistreptolysin O, Streptozyme

-
Viral Infections: Covid, HSV, HHV-6, EBV, CMV, Coxsackie
-
Inflammation markers: CRP, ESR
-
Autoimmune markers: ANA with reflux to titer
-
General screening labs: CBC with diff, vitamin D
Specialized Labs to Consider:
