Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances which encourage the person’s inherent self –healing process, the vis medicatrix naturae.

Naturopathic Doctors are clinically trained in natural therapeutics with the philosophy derived from Hippocratic teaching that nature is the healer of all diseases. Naturopathic Medicine is based on the same basic bio-medical science foundation as allopathic medicine, but the philosophy and approach to treatment is much different.

Principles of Naturopathic Medicine:

  • Primum No Nocere »First do no harm

  • Vis Mediatrix Naturae »The healing power of nature

  • Tolle Causam »Identify and treat the cause

  • Tolle Totum »Heal the whole person

  • Docere »The physician as teacher

  • Praevenir »Prevention

Naturopathic Doctors are educated and trained through accredited Naturopathic Medical Schools. A licensed Naturopathic Doctor has been certified to practice through national professional board exams and continues to maintain professional continuing education requirements.
