What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathic medicine is a system of holistic healing based on three core principles:
1. “Like Cures Like”
The idea that a substance that can produce symptoms in a healthy person may help treat similar symptoms in someone who is ill—when given in very small, highly diluted amounts.
-
For example, there is a remedy called allium cepa, which is made from onion. Think about what happens when you cut an onion: your eyes burn and water, and your nose may run with a clear, watery discharge. This remedy, allium cepa, can actually treat these symptoms and can be a good remedy for treating allergies. It is not because someone has these symptoms because they cut an onion, but in a diluted potency remedy allium cepa can treat these similar like symptoms.
2. Individualized Treatment
Homeopathy considers the whole person—physical, emotional, and mental—and remedies are chosen based on each individual’s unique symptom pattern.
-
For example, the way one person experiences anxiety is going to be very different than the way another person experiences anxiety. A homeopathic intake will look into what instances trigger anxiety, what physical and mental symptoms are accompanied with it, and much more.
-
Another example is the flu virus. Ten people can come down with the same flu virus, but each person may get a different remedy to treat that virus, as the flu may manifest differently in each person.
-
By recognizing the individuality of each person we can achieve the best and deepest healing in the body.
3. Use of highly diluted remedies
Homeopathic remedies are prepared through repeated dilution and shaking (a process called potentization). This enhances the remedy’s energetic or healing properties while minimizing adverse effects.

Overall goal: To stimulate the body’s natural self-healing response and restore balance and health in the body.

Homeopathy is a gentle, safe, and effective treatment. It is affective at treating a wide range of health conditions, but can not replace the use of some life-saving medications such as insulin for a type-1 diabetes. Homeopathy can be used with medications, herbs, and natural supplements, and will not interfere with their efficacy. Unlike medications and even natural treatments, homeopathy does not cause side effects. It can, however, cause an initial aggravation of current symptoms. These aggravations are temporary and usually therapeutic, as they are a sign that the body is responding to the remedy, and once this aggravation resolves, improvements will be seen.
